Policies

Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming is based on the belief that my customers’  needs are of the utmost importance. I am committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of my business is from repeat customers and referrals.
Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming is committed to give your pet the best possible service. Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming prides itself on being one of the few places to offer low stress grooming for your pet. In order to keep a stress free, safe environment for your best friend, we groom by appointment only and offer convenience services which can save you time and less stress for your pet. Your pet will be groomed much like she/he would be in a grooming salon with professional tools, shampoo and a portable table. Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming has very adaptable services for all types of situations to suit your needs with our Pick up and Delivery Service Grooming and House Call Grooming. Therefore, the following necessary policies must be implemented.

Appointments:
We can only take a limited number of appointments each day. A missed appointment is a serious loss of income to a small business. It is very important to keep a timed schedule of each pet in our care. Therefore the necessary policies must be implemented. ANY and ALL appointments made online to be in effect WILL NEED to be confirmed by either email or phone confirmation. Allow 24 to 48 hours be be contacted for confirmation.

Cancellations:
Please call at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to cancel or reschedule, so that we may be able to fill your time slot with someone waiting.
No-Shows:(Whether I pick up or you drop off your pet)
If 2 or more appointments are missed in a calendar year, we may require for you to prepay for services. I give grace for the first missed appointment only.

Late Arrivals: Drop Offs Delivery and Pick up House Calls:
If you arrive more that 15 minutes late for your appointment, there may be an additional charge or you may need to reschedule to avoid the appointments following to get behind schedule.
*Exceptions may apply if you call ahead when you are running late.

Late Pick-ups:
At the time you drop off your pet, we will be able to give you an approximate time (average 30 minutes to 2 hours) for pick up. We will also call you approximately 15 minutes prior to your pet being finished.
In the case that you need to leave your pet longer than the time needed to groom, a day-care fee will be added to accommodate the time
spent taking care of and assuring they remain comfortable until you arrive.
Fees are as follows:$10 - for each hour after a 30 minute grace period.

Accidents:
There is always the possibility an accident could occur. Grooming equipment is sharp, even though we use extreme caution and care in all situations, possible problems could occur including cuts, nicks, scratches, quicks of nails, etc. In most cases, this can happen when a pet is wiggling or moving around. Every effort will be made to insure your pet is groomed as safely as possible, but an excited, scared or nervous pet can be dangerous to work on. We reserve the right to end the grooming session, even if the groom is not completed, and the full grooming price will be charged.

House Call Grooming:
House Call Grooming is a PERSONAL service which saves you TIME. This is an IN-HOME grooming service. Therefore, you must be comfortable with your pet(s) being bathed and groomed in your home. A typical grooming session for most dogs is 1 to 2 1/2 hours. I will clean up after the grooming session. Pets are never caged and usually much calmer when groomed in their own home.

Vaccinations:
We do not require proof of vaccinations. Vaccination protocol is up to the owner and their veterinarian; even some veterinarians question how often to vaccinate, therefore we leave it up to each individual owner. As long as you are comfortable with your pets’ level of protection, so are we. However, Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming  WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for any contractible diseases, illnesses, TO INCLUDE ANY ILLNESS SUCH AS; BUT NOT LIMITED TO: BORDETELLA (KENNEL COUGH) OR ANY OTHER FORM OF CONTAGIOUS ILLNESSES. Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY VETERINARIAN EXPENSES INCURRED ON BEHALF OF YOUR PET. SICKNESS SHALL BE DEFINED TO INCLUDE ANY ILLNESS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BORDETELLA (KENNEL COUGH) OR ANY OTHER FORM OF CONTAGIOUS ILLNESS. VETERINARIAN LIABILITY AND CARE WILL BE THE SOUL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PET OWNER.

Matting:
Pets groomed on a regular basis adjust and cooperate to the routine. Any pet not groomed within a 6 week period or (4 weeks for long-hair pets) maybe subject to a matting fee. Matting occurs from lack of grooming, coat overgrowth, not routinely being brushed or a coat not being combed through prior to getting wet. When matting is severe and/or close to the skin, the only humane way to remove the mats is to clip the coat off to the skin line. In some cases where the matting is not severe and only covers a small area, we can remove them by splitting, thinning and then brushing them out. There are additional fees to de-mat your pet. It takes an average of 30-60 minutes to remove mats. Severe matting requires longer. De matting is hard on our equipment and in most cases requires two haircuts, the first to remove the matted coat prior to bathing and a second to even up the coat after bathing.
In the case that there is a need to remove matted hair is a necessity. When a coat becomes tangled beyond the ability to brush or comb through it, the most humane method is to shave off the matted hair. Shaving may seem severe, but it is the fastest and least stressful way to groom a matted pet.
There are additional fees to de-mat your pet and these charges may be added for heavy matting. We charge $15.00 for every 1/2 hour extra from the standard allotted time to remove mats. *Please note that Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming will not de-mat a pet if it is decided that it is too painful for the pet. If we deem the mats are too difficult to brush through, we will only remove them with clippers in the form of a “smootcut or a blended trim" (an attempt to camouflage removed mats with trim). This will be discussed at the time of drop-off.
Matted coats can cause the following problems:
*Skin irritation caused by dirt, dander, and parasites trapped under matted hair.
*Sores and hair loss: As mats get tighter, they eventually pull out of the skin, causing bald spots and sore skin. In severe cases, maggots can infest skin sores.
It is not uncommon to find pre-existing conditions such as hot spots, sores, and other skin issues once the matted coat is removed. There is also a chance that your pet's skin may become irritated from being clipped so close. Ear bruising due to excessive head shaking after removal of mats can occur.
We are not responsible for health conditions that may be revealed by removing a matted coat such as sores, etc.
Because the procedure takes extreme care and extra time, there will be additional charges depending on the severity of matting.

Extra charges may be added for heavy matting. We charge $15.00 for every 1/2 hour extra from the standard allotted time to remove mats. Again Please note *Barnum’s PreFURred Pet Grooming will not de-mat a pet if it is too painful for the pet if we deem the mats are too difficult to brush through, we will only remove them with clippers in the form of a “smoothie” cut or a blended trim (an attempt to camouflage removed mats with trim). Fleas and other parasites:
If you suspect your pet has fleas or ticks, prompt and thorough action on YOUR part is needed. Please inform us if you are aware of these issues so that we can determine the best treatment. Flea infestations can lead to tapeworm and other health problems. If fleas are found during the grooming process, your pet will be treated with a flea dip bath treatment to kill the parasites and will be charged and additional $20 for the treatment. ****Please note: Flea Preventative will still need to be administered after the flea treatment. House Call Grooming will not use pesticide dips or sprays on your pet. If ticks are found they will be removed for an additional charge of $8 per tick.

Aggressive Behavior:
Aggressive/Biting pets will not be accepted for any service.
Owners MUST inform us if your pet(s) bite(s), has bitten, or is aggressive to people, other pets or specific grooming procedures. Muzzles may be used if necessary. However, muzzling will not harm your pet, and protects both the pet and the groomer. Unsatisfactory behavior can determine whether a pet can or will be groomed by the stylist. Please understand that an unmanageable pet can be dangerous to themselves and the stylist. Dogs that exhibit EXTREME behavior such as continuously struggling, biting, urinating or defecating during the grooming process will be returned to the owner unfinished at full price. Pet owners are responsible for any and all damages by their pet. This includes damage to the grooming salon (equipment, cages, walls etc…) Unsatisfactory behavior can determine whether a pet can or will be groomed by the stylist. Please understand that an unmanageable pet can be dangerous to themselves and the stylist.

Health or Medical Problems & Senior Pets:
Grooming procedures can sometimes be stressful, especially for a senior pet or pet with health problems, and can expose hidden medical problems or aggravate a current one during or after the groom. Because senior pets and pets with health problems have a greater chance of injury, these pets will be groomed for cleanliness and comfort, in styles that will not add to their stress. In the best interest of your pet this contract/agreement will give House Call Grooming permission to obtain immediate Veterinary treatment for your pet should it be deemed necessary by House Call Grooming. We will do our best to contact you first, then take your pet to your authorized veterinarian or to the nearest veterinarian that is available. It is agreed thatall expenses for veterinary care will be covered by the pet's owner upon signing this contract/agreement.

Other Policies:
If you are unhappy with your pet’s groom, you may bring your pet in for a touch up at no charge within 7 days of his/her original grooming appointment. (Note: a touch up does not include a bath. Dog must still be clean.)

There are many variables in pet grooming, such as whether your pet has long or short hair and also if the hair is matted and tangled. Therefore, there is no set pricing for a Full Grooming.  I set individual prices for each pet, largely based on the time required to complete the chosen service. Factors which determine the price of a service include:
 Amount of scissor work
Brushing
Clipping
Degree of matting
Difficulty of the cut
Disposition/level of cooperation of your pet
Drying time
Length of hair
Size of pet

Unfinished Grooms:
If the groom is not completed because of stress or behavior, the full grooming price will be charged.
** For clients who live outside of my usual service area there is an additional trip fee of $25. This fee may be waived for multiple pet households. Prices are NOT negotiable.**

THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION!
